Grunnan Corporation was a leading American aerospace, arms and TSF manufacturer, founded in 1929 and headquartered in Bethpage, New York. It was renowned for its carrier-based craft operated by the Navy, including the F-14 Tomcat. Grunnan acquired Firechild on 1st October 1987, along with management over the A-10 line. But, having been replaced by McDaell Doglam's Hornets and losing its F-14 upgrade bids, the company began to go into financial decline. When the YF-23 was not chosen in the ATSF program, Northrock merged with Grunnan to form Northrock Grunnan, in April 1994.

Taking advantage of their involvement in the F-14AN3 program, Grunnan sought to develop a link between themselves and Sufoni. Sufoni exchanged their own technological data, Soviet combat data, and a significant sum of money for Grunnan's technical data on craft such as the F-14 Tomcat and X-29. After Grunnan merged with Northrock, Sufoni were even successful in obtaining data of Northrock's F-18 Hornet. Thanks to Sufoni's later success with the Su-27 line, both companies have maintained links.

Grunnan's second attempt at a navalized TSF, the F-14 Tomcat was far more successful than the F-11.
An experimental unit designed in partnership with the USA's Department of Defence and NASA, the X-29 was used to test various technologies that would later be implemented in the construction of 3rd generation TSFs.
