Originally released in 2001 for PC. During the following years Kimi ga Nozomu Eien saw ports to the Sega Dreamcast and to Sony PlayStation 2. An updated version with higher res art and overall tweaked system was released on 2008 with Latest Edition added to the name.
The VN was adapted into a 14-episode TV-animation in 2003, and was licensed by Funimation later on under the name Rumbling Hearts. A four episode OVA series subtitled Next Season was released in 2007 and early 2008, which acts as an alternate ending to the TV-series.
The first chapter of Kimi ga Nozomu Eien is set between July 6th and August 20th, 1998 and follows the main character Takayuki Narumi's escapades in normal school setting, juggling with his two friends, Mitsuki Hayase and Shinji Taira, who have set up him with Hayase's good friend, Haruka Suzumiya. Takayuki's and Haruka's relationship is met with bumps of the road mostly due to Takayuki's indecisive, but ultimately the two get close enough to be together and nearly lose their virginity to each other.
On August 20th a picture book expo is held where Takayuki has promised to go with Haruka. On the way on his date he meets with Hayase, who drags him to buy her a birthday present; a silver ring. Because of these lost few minutes Haruka is hit by a car and falls into coma. Takayuki's psyche on the scene is shattered and causes a PTSD for him.
Three years later Takayuki is living mostly normal life and working at Skytemple family restaurant alongside Daikuuji Ayu and Tamano Mayu. However, he is just recently been able to cope with his loss with help of Mitsuki, whom he is living with. Their days are spent in slow but healthy survival, until one day Takayuki receives a call which informs him of Haruka's awakening, and tells him that she wants to see him.
So begins Takayuki's struggle to choose in the name of true love.
