Noto Izumi (能登 和泉) is a side character featured in Muv-Luv Alternative Total Eclipse, first introduced in the anime.

Total Eclipse[]

Izumi was a cadet from a samurai family who attended an eishi training school in Kyoto, and was a classmate of Takamura Yui. A gentle person, and friends with Iwami Aki, Yamashiro Kazusa and Kai Shimako, she was often teased by Aki about her enlisted boyfriend in the Imperial Army, of whom she was very fond of.

The mental blow from discovering that her boyfriend was killed during early days of the BETA invasion of Japan resulted in her later mental instability. Assigned to the same unit as Yui, she joined Aki, Kazusa, and Shimako in defending the Arashiyama Supply Base, in an attempt to prevent the BETA from reaching Kyoto.

Reckless in combat, her anger and frustration over her boyfriend's death showed itself when she continued to brutally mutilate a Grappler-class' corpse after dispatching it in combat, even as her unit survivors began to retreat from the doomed base.

Despite her behavior, she managed to survive the Laser-class barrage that decimated most of her unit in their retreat towards Kyoto, and continued fighting through the city alongside Kazusa and Yui. She later witnessed both Yui and Kazusa crash after being attacked by a Fort-class, and while she managed to dodge their powerful whips for a time, she was brought down as well.

Due to a heavy metal concentration in the air, Izumi knew she had to seal up her helmet if she wanted to go outside. She proceeded to jettison with her Feedback Protector exoskeleton and began to wander, but was caught by roaming Soldier-class. She was later discovered by Yui in an underground subway station, her helmet broken through and blood pooling around her head. Yui watched Izumi be torn apart by the Soldier-class and confirmed her death before she received a transmission from Kazusa and left to find her.

In the anime, during a tactical retreat, her Zuikaku was disabled after Kazusa's TSF crashed into her's while trying to avoid a Fort-class; her corpse was later found by Yui when she follows a blood trail from a Zuikaku with its cockpit hatch torn open, to a group of Soldier-class BETA consuming her remains.

Etymology[]

  • Noto means "function, Noh, talent" (能) (no) and "rise, ascend" (登) (to).
  • Izumi means "harmony, peace" (和) (izu) and "fountain, spring" (泉) (mi).

Trivia[]

  • In the Anime, Izumi's locket is larger and has a picture of her standing with her plain clothes boyfriend. In the Visual Novel, however, the locket is smaller in a heart shape with her boyfriend's portrait: he is wearing the formal dress of the Imperial Royal Guard, in vassal colors.
